Meeting on the Development of Higher Education and Science Held in Shymkent
On April 4, 2026, a meeting was held in the city of Shymkent with the participation of Akim G. Syzdykbekov, Minister of Science and Higher Education of the Republic of Kazakhstan S. Nurbek, and Mazhilis Deputy O. Kuspekov, along with the leadership of the city’s universities.
Opening the meeting, the Akim welcomed the participants and emphasized the importance of developing the education and science sectors for the sustainable growth of the region. In his speech, the Minister presented key prospects for the development of science and the higher education system in Shymkent. Particular attention was paid to the consolidation of universities in training qualified personnel, as well as the need to attract foreign lecturers and students to the educational process.
The Mazhilis Deputy noted that in the future, Shymkent should evolve into a full-fledged educational hub with well-developed infrastructure, modern academic buildings, and well-equipped laboratories.
The meeting was held in a roundtable and open microphone format, allowing participants to exchange views freely. University rectors presented their strategic development programs and shared initiatives in the field of digital transformation.
During the discussion, youth-driven innovative solutions for the digital transformation of industries were presented. Participants proposed ideas for digitalization and the use of IT approaches in the education system, outlined prospects for the development of the university system, and suggested utilizing the internal intellectual resources of university staff to develop IT tools for monitoring the quality of educational services.
In addition, proposals were made to create a database of foreign lecturers and highly qualified domestic specialists, enabling their involvement in an online format, which would significantly reduce time and financial costs.
As a result of the meeting, the Akim of the city and the Minister of Science and Higher Education of the Republic of Kazakhstan proposed the establishment of a working group to further discuss current issues related to the development of higher education and science in Shymkent.
